Whitewater River Rafting

It’s been years since I last went river rafting with Eric, Eph, and Yvonne, so I was thrilled when Eric called and asked if I was up for another trip. Just like last time, we had a total blast. If you’ve never been river rafting before, drop what you’re doing right now and start planning a trip.

New Foal: Sasha

Another new season, another new foal. Sasha was just born two days earlier, and she’s already running, jumping, and bucking as if her energy knows no bounds. My dad and I had a lot of fun turning Sasha and her mom loose in the ring adjacent to the stables. I love how inseparable they — they might as well be glued together.

Inauguration

April Fool’s Day seems like a fortuitous time for the coronation of my eponymous domain. I imagine the timing will help remind me to keep it light and fun.

When I first came across the web back in 1994, I wanted to participate in this exciting new world by setting up my own site. Since I had been among the first American Online users — from back before the web was born, when AOL was Mac-only software — I took advantage of AOL’s infrastructure and created what would be my first home on the web. Back in the days of dial-up, network speeds were glacial, making frequent changes tedious. So that initial site was seldom updated, and today it looks the same as it did when I created it many years ago.

Ten years later, connection speed and web tools had improved, and blogging was all the rage. I decided it was time to try again, to set up a place where I could post photos, reviews, tutorials, and random thoughts. Thus it was that Zamamiro was born. And yet after a brief while, I found myself posting less and less often. Something about the blogging format didn’t mesh with what I was looking for: a place to publish brief tidbits, perhaps punctuated by longer posts if time allowed. So Zamamiro exists today only in the belly of the Wayback Machine.

Four years later, the tools have evolved to match what I had long been trying to accomplish. So with the proper tools in hand, it is time to re-establish my own personal homestead. I had taken the liberty of registering the justinmayer.com domain back in 2001, and after sitting idle in the digital garage for the last seven years, it seemed to be the natural choice when it came time to decide which domain to host the new site.

So there you have it. Welcome to the new digs!
